Cincinnati Butch Jones announced Monday that senior defensive end Walter Stewart won't play on Friday when the Bearcats visit No. 16 Louisville.
Stewart was a late, unexpected scratch prior to the team's game against Toledo on Saturday.
Jones said Stewart would be getting a second opinion this week, and that his status for the remainder of the season is unknown.
Stewart suffered what's being referred to as an upper body injury Oct. 13 against Fordham.
The Bearcats missed Stewart tremendously in Saturday's loss to Toledo, Jones said, and they will certainly be short-handed when trying to pressure Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater on Friday.
Coming into last week's games, Stewart had five sacks and seven tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
Fifth-year senior Brandon Mills is Stewart's replacement, and he played well against Toledo, making two tackles and recovering a fumble.
