ACC Power Ranking: Conference heavyweights pummeled by SEC rivals

Here's CBSSports.com Rapid Reports ACC power ranking:

1. Florida State (10-2):
The Seminoles lost to Florida, becoming the centerpiece of a disastrous day for the conference. Last week's power ranking: 1. Next up: vs. Georgia Tech in the ACC Championship Game, Saturday 8 p.m. ET, (ESPN).

2. Clemson (10-2): Clemson was the only ACC team to beat an SEC team this season, beating Auburn in the season opener. The Tigers lost to South Carolina to end the season, dropping the ACC to 1-5 against the SEC. Last week's power ranking: 2. Next up: Bowl game TBD.

3. Miami (7-5): The Hurricanes were motivated for the season finale against Duke despite the disappointment of the postseason ban. Coach Al Golden deserves credit for guiding the team through a tough season. Last week's power ranking: 4. Next up: Season complete.

4. North Carolina (8-4): The Tar Heels finished the season with a share of the Coastal Division lead, meeting one of the team's goals heading into a year without the prospect of a postseason. Last week's power ranking: 5. Next up: Season complete.

5. Georgia Tech (6-6): The Yellow Jackets were crushed by Georgia in the last game of the regular season and head into the ACC Championship Game with the prospect of missing out on a bowl unless they win. Last week's power ranking: 3. Next up: vs. Florida State in the ACC Championship Game, Saturday 8 p.m. ET, (ESPN).

6. NC State (7-5): The Wolfpack will be in limbo as they head to a bowl after dismissing head coach Tom O'Brien on Sunday. NC State decided that making a bowl wasn't enough and made a bold move. Time will tell whether it was the right one. Last week's power ranking: 7. Next up: Bowl game TBD.

7. Duke (6-6): The Blue Devils ended the season on a four-game losing streak, taking some of the shine off their first bowl appearance since 1994. Last week's power ranking: 6. Next up: Bowl game TBD.

8. Virginia Tech (6-6): The Hokies salvaged something from a letdown of a season by beating Virginia in the final game of the regular season and becoming bowl eligible. Last week's power ranking: 8. Next up: Bowl game TBD.

9. Maryland (4-8): Maryland gave a strong effort but fell short at North Carolina, putting an end to a trying season for the Terrapins. Last week's power ranking: 11. Next up: Season complete.

10. Wake Forest (5-7): With bowl eligibility on the line, the Demon Deacons were blown out by Vanderbilt and will stay home for the postseason. Last week's power ranking: 9. Next up: Season complete.

11. Virginia (4-8): The Cavaliers ended a frustrating season with questionable clock management in a close loss to arch-rival Virginia Tech. Last week's power ranking: 10. Next up: Season complete.

12. Boston College (2-10): The Eagles finished their season with a loss to NC State, and coach Frank Spaziani was dismissed the next day. The rebuilding process is just getting underway at Boston College. Last week's power ranking: 12. Next up: Season complete.
