West Virginia quarterback Ford Childress was arrested Thursday and charged with driving under the influence, according to local reports.

According to The Dominion Post and Morgantown Police reports, Childress was spotted driving down University Avenue without headlights at about 12:22 a.m.. After admitting to drinking beer, the early enrollee freshman was measured with a .189 BAC on the preliminary breath test. The legal driving limit is .08.

"I have been made aware of the situation and am gathering facts at this time," head coach Dana Holgorsen said in a statement to The Dominion Post. "I will take appropriate action when all the facts are in."

The Mountaineers are scheduled to play their annual Gold-Blue spring game on Saturday. It is unknown if Childress - currently the third string quarterback behind Geno Smith and Paul Millard - will be available to play. Holgorsen has mentioned the possibilities of redshirting the Houston native if given the opportunity.

Ford is the son of five-time Pro Bowler Ray Childress, who was just inducted into College Football Hall of Fame in 2010. At Texas A&M, Childress was a two-time All-America selection and the third overall pick in the 1985 NFL Draft.
