Charles Eric Waugh arrested for probation violation

Charles Eric Waugh of Ashland, Kentucky was arrested by Kentucky State Police on Monday for failing to meet the terms of the Kentucky Sex Offender Registry.

Waugh was the subject of a story last week in the Ohio State newspaper, The Lantern. Ohio State had learned that Waugh, a convicted sex offender, had been interacting with Ohio State student-athletes both in person and through social media sites. Doug Archie, OSU's athletic director for compliance issued an email to Ohio State student-athletes warning them of Waugh's criminal past.

"The University has become aware that an individual who is listed on Kentucky's sex offender registry has recently been seen in pictures with our student-athletes," said Archie in the email.

Waugh's interaction with Ohio State players also led to one player de-committing from the school.

A member of Ohio State's 2013 recruiting class, linebacker Alex Anzalone, had recently taken a photo alongside Waugh following the Ohio State spring game. Following The Lantern's story on Waugh, Anzalone decommitted from Ohio State; Waugh's relationship with players is believed to be a key motivating factor behind the decision.
