Boston College hires Steve Addazio

Boston College has hired Temple's Steve Addazio as its new football coach, according to a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations.

Addazio, who went 13-11 in two seasons at Temple, was a BC candidate three years ago before knee surgery derailed a potential interview. The Eagles elevated former assistant Frank Spaziani, who was fired after three subpar seasons.

Sports Illustrated first reported the news.

"We are very excited to have Steve Addazio leading BC football and look forward to an extraordinary future," said new BC athletic director Brad Bates.

Boston College interviewed Notre Dame defensive coordinator Bob Diaco on Tuesday morning, according to the source. Temple gave Addazio an extension after his 9-4 debut with the Owls, but the team finished 4-7 this season as a new Big East member.

Addazio's hiring caps a crazy day of college football hirings, with former Arkansas State coach Gus Malzahn headed to Auburn and Wisconsin's Bret Bielema taking the Arkansas job.
