Charlie Strong, Louisville 'getting close' on extension to 2020, AD says

The Louisville Cardinals are "getting close" to finalizing Charlie Strong's contract extension to 2020 but haven't discussed financial terms, athletics director Tom Jurich said Tuesday by phone.

In October, Jurich told CBS Sports he'd match any offer for Strong. Tennessee reportedly offered Strong a contract worth $3.5 million per year that he turned down. But turns out Jurich didn't have to match anything because Strong never revealed the offer to UofL, according to Jurich.

"(Tennessee) never made an offer to me, and (Strong) never showed it to me," Jurich said.

Strong will get a raise from his $2.3 million salary in 2012, which included a 10-win season and a Sugar Bowl berth for the Cardinals.

"I'd love to see him finish his career here," Jurich said.
