Dennis Dodd's Take
|
|
It had to be a jump pass. It had to be the signature play of Tim Tebow's career because if we never see him as a Gator again we'll always have the scene in our minds with 3 minutes, 7 seconds left in Thursday's BCS title game. We'll remember all the daggers he stuck through all the hearts. We'll remember the victory laps, the Gator chomps, the goofy grins, the fullback-quality runs. But if Thursday night was the end, then we'll remember the jump pass. Full story | Doyel: Sooners fail to show up | Darst: Florida's Black makes huge play

Florida: Florida coach Urban Meyer and Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops grew up an hour apart in the same northern Ohio region. Three yards and a cloud of dust was the mantra, a conservative philosophy of football that had its roots and influences in the game plans of iconic Ohio State coach Woody Hayes. On Jan. 8, Meyer and Stoops will lead two of the most prolific offenses in the nation when Florida plays Oklahoma in the BCS championship game. More
Oklahoma: Well, that certainly seems to have upped the ante for what's on tap Jan. 8 at Dolphin Stadium. By winning the Heisman Trophy, Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford has been placed in the rare position of being able to play for a national title against another Heisman finalist. The most recent players in that position were Chris Weinke, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart. More

The Miami Hurricances from 2001 and the Southern Cal Trojans from 2003 and 2004 will have their arguments, but few teams within the last decade have showed the versatility and balance of the 2008 National Champions- The Florida Gators. All I can say is that Tebow's jump pass is the greatest thing since Wilt Chamberlain's hook shot. Speak!

"I promised the guys that I would go out and play with all my heart. I was so motivated tonight. Oklahoma's a great team and they came out and played hard. I'm so proud of my teammates right now. I can't put it into words -- it was just an incredible night."
-- Florida quarterback Tim Tebow
"It's a tough game. We didn't end up finishing like we talked about all week. We said that we had to finish and we just didn't finish."
-- Oklahoma defensive tackle Gerald McCoy
