Was I the only one that was shocked that USC didn't beat Boston College by more points? Not only do the Trojans have more talent, but this was basically a home game for them. No matter what you think of USC, there is a ton of talent on both sides of the ball and the Trojans will be good next year. Much better than this season.
Game Recap
Matt Barkley threw touchdown passes to Stanley Havili on Southern California's first two possessions and added a touchdown run in the fourth quarter to help the Trojans beat Boston College 24-13 in the Emerald Bowl. The victory was far from impressive but it did put a positive ending on a disappointing season for USC. The Trojans lost three of their final five regular-season games to fall out of the national rankings for the first time since Pete Carroll's first season as coach in 2001. Team Reports
Boston College: Call this playing with house money for Boston College. Coming into the season, BC, fresh off another coaching change, was picked to finish last in the ACC Atlantic Division. The Eagles weren't supposed to win more than four or five games. More
Southern California: With the way USC played down the stretch of the season -- losing three of its last five games, sputtering on offense and lacking apparent emotion in the regular-season finale against Arizona -- this might not be the best time for coach Pete Carroll to be making guarantees. "We needed this W. We're happy to start next season with a win. We had a great two weeks of practice and it was all a matter of executing. Yeah, we're used to playing in the Rose Bowl but we're still motivated to play and to win this game, since this is where we played. We had a great game plan up front. It was a growing season. We had a lot of young guys step up."

"We certainly felt going in that we could win. We knew how we had to play. We made too many mistakes. It's frustrating."
