Dennis Dodd's Take
Make fun of the Big Ten all you want. Get in line with the rest of the hack comics (Take my league, please!) You'll read plenty of that yang over the next few days with the Rusted Belt now 1-5 in the postseason. Go ahead and drop the f-bomb (fraud) regarding Penn State in the first half of the Rose Bowl. The Spread HD looked like Dead Analog falling behind 31-7. Full story

Game Recap
Southern California made a strong case of its own to be No. 1. JoePa agreed, even before Penn State got beaten by the Trojans in the Rose Bowl. Mark Sanchez passed for 413 yards and four touchdowns, USC dominated on defense and the fifth-ranked Trojans defeated the No. 6 Nittany Lions 38-24. Full story | JoePa watches from press box

UWIRE
Michael Middlehurst-Schwartz, Daily Trojan: Another Rose Bowl, another rout. It was a game like any other for USC. Well, maybe not the sudden aerial outbreak on offense. And the late lapses were uncharacteristic of the nation’s best defense. Full story

Travis Johnson, Daily Collegian: A.Q. Shipley bit back tears, his upper lip firmly tucked under the bottom, his face red as he walked up to the tunnel leading to the Penn State locker room. Key Players
Daryll Clark, QB, Penn State
The quarterback threw for 251 yards on 20-fo-36 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Clark also had 25 yards rushing and a touchdown.

Mark Sanchez, QB, Southern California
The junior quarterback threw for 413 yards and four touchdowns, including three in the first half. His favorite target was Damian Williams, who had 10 catches for 163 yards.

Team Reports
  • Penn State: Derrick Williams will spend much of the next few weeks watching the USC Trojans on film. But the Penn State wide receiver has already seen plenty of the Nittany Lions' Rose Bowl opponent on television this season. More

  • Southern California: One of the big questions for USC as it prepares for the Rose Bowl against Penn State is how the offense runs without coordinator Steve Sarkisian. Sarkisian is off to be the head coach at Washington, leaving USC a coach short as it prepares for the Jan. 1 bowl, which has the tradition matchup of true Pac-10 champ vs. true Big Ten champ for the first time since the 2004 game. Note To Pete Carroll - Please don't ever dial it down like that again in the 4th quarter. When you dial down your offense in the entire 4th quarter.....you are only telling your defense they don't have to work so hard. At the end of the game, the commentators were calling the ending "a bit scary". Post your thoughts!

"I just think we can beat anyone we played. That's happened a lot to us late in the season. This is a terrific finishing program. There are so many things we can do. We're just hard to beat right now.
