J. Darin Darst's Take
|
|
Ohio State fans ... what the hell have you done with Jim Tressel? Who was that aggressive coach on the sideline in the red vest calling passing plays, instead of running the ball on 3rd-and-7? That's not the Ohio State offense I'm used to seeing. Unless you are a Buckeyes hater, it was nice to see Terrelle Pryor air it out with success. This kid has a ton of talent and will be a Heisman contender next season.

Game Recap
|
Ohio State's bowl woes are over, thanks to a sturdy defense and a quarterback who finally played up to his enormous potential. Terrelle Pryor passed for a season-high 266 yards and two touchdowns, rushed for 72 more and threw a 17-yard scoring pass to DeVier Posey with 7:02 to play, ending the No. 8 Buckeyes' three-game BCS skid with a 26-17 victory over No. 7 Oregon in the Rose Bowl. Posey had eight catches for 101 yards, and Brandon Saine caught an early TD pass for the Buckeyes. Full story | Video

Team Reports
|
Oregon: The 2010 Heisman race starts in the 2009 bowl season, so what about Jeremiah Masoli? Oregon's junior quarterback shrugged off a slow start to the season (as did the Ducks) and then just kept shrugging off would-be tacklers. More
Ohio State: Ohio State has seen this one before. An explosive offense that plays fast and can score quickly. An offense with speed all over the field. Last year it was Texas and the Fiesta Bowl. This time it is Oregon and the Rose Bowl. More

"As a quarterback, you don't like running the ball. It's kind of like being selfish. We have great running backs, and they need to get the ball, too... Whatever we need, I'll do it. That's what it's about on offense."
-- Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor
"Definitely the whole night we were just a little bit off. We didn't really open up the playbook regarding the air attack. I don't know why. I wasn't calling the plays."
-- Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli
