Report: Iowa RB Jordan Canzeri has a torn ACL

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer
When you hear talk of Iowa running backs being cursed, you first laugh it off because the notion seems so silly, but then terrible things keep happening to Iowa running backs and you start to wonder if there might actually be something to it.

The latest bad news to hit the Hawkeyes involves running back Jordan Canzeri, who reportedly tore his ACL in practice on Wednesday. Canzeri's father, Brian Canzeri, originally told that his son was scheduled to undergo an MRI on the knee on Thursday.

Now is reporting that Brian Canzeri has confirmed the MRI has shown his son tore his ACL.

Canzeri was listed on top of the depth chart at running back this spring. He stepped in for Marcus Coker last season after Coker was suspended, and had 86 all-purpose yards and a touchdown in Iowa's loss to Oklahoma in the Insight Bowl. Since that game both Marcus Coker and Mika'il McCall left the Iowa program, leaving Canzeri as the most experience back on the team.

Now this ACL injury means Iowa will head into season with Damon Bullock and De'Andre Johnson battling for a starting spot.
