Beer could be coming to TCF Bank Stadium

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer
Last year Minnesota fans had to endure home losses to schools like New Mexico State and North Dakota State, which could not have been easy. Fortunately for those fans, those losses might become easier to swallow should they happen again in 2012.

The Minnesota state senate approved a bill this week that would allow Minnesota to sell beer at TCF Bank Stadium.
The measure allows the university's Board of Regents to sign off on a liquor-license application for TCF Bank Stadium. The stadium opened in 2009.

Earlier, the U estimated that selling alcohol in premium seats would raise $1.5 million a year. But the Legislature forbade selling alcohol in any part of the stadium unless it was sold throughout.
The school has said that beer could be sold in luxury seating as well as a public beer garden that would be located on the west side of the stadium.

Of course, while the estimated $1.5 million in revenue might serve as a nice boost to the athletic department, it should also be noted that if the school is going to sell alcohol in the stadium, they'll also have to spend more on security.

I don't know if you've noticed, but people tend to get feisty when they get some alcohol in them.
