Police: Petrino had female passenger riding on motorcycle with him

By Jerry Hinnen | College Football Writer

The story of Bobby Petrino's motorcycle accident may have become much more complicated Thursday.

Despite statements from both himself and the University of Arkansas that claimed the Razorback head coach was alone when he crashed his motorcycle Sunday, April 1, the official accident report from the Arkansas State Police indicates that a female passenger -- Jessica Dorrell, 25 -- was also riding the motorcycle at the time of the accident. Via the Arkansas Times, the report is available on as a PDF file here.

Dorrell holds a job with the Razorback Foundation as an Assistant Director, and has her bio available on the official Arkansas athletic department site. Dorrell is a former All-SEC performer for the Arkansas volleyball team.

The statement issued by the university Monday stated that "Coach Petrino was involved in a motorcycle accident on Sunday evening that involved no other individuals." Petrino said as much in his first public comments on Tuesday, though his description of the crash scene did include a "a lady there that had flagged down a car."

Neither the university nor Petrino has issued a statement since the release of the police report.

According to the report, both Petrino and Dorrell were transported away from the crash site by a third party to a Fayetteville intersection near where Dorrell's car had been parked:

POST CRASH ACTIVITIES: OPERATOR PETRINO (V-1) AND PASSENGER DORRELL WERE NOT PRESENT AT THE ACCIDENT SCENE WHEN I ARRIVED. EMS WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE TRAFFIC ACCIDENT. OPERATOR PETRINO (V-1) AND PASSENGER DORRELL WERE TRANSPORTED FROM THE COLLISION SCENE TO THE INTERSECTION OF EAST HUNTSVILLE ROAD AND CROSSOVER ROAD IN FAYETTEVILLE ... UPON ARRIVAL AT THE INTERSECTION OF EAST HUNTSVILLE ROAD AND CROSSOVER ROAD IN FAYETTEVILLE, PASSENGER DORRELL DEPARTED IN HER PERSONEL VEHICLE. OPERATOR OF (V-1) PETRINO WAS TRANSPORTED TO PHYSICIAN SPECIALTY HOSPITAL BY ASP CAPTAIN LANCE KING IN HIS ASP VEHICLE.

Petrino is married, and Tuesday related discussing his choice not to wear a motorcycle helmet with his wife before leaving their house.

"The ironic thing is we were sitting there in the kitchen, Becky and I, and I had two helmets out," Petrino said. "I said, `This one's going to be really heavy and hot, and then this one makes me look like a cone head. I think I'll just go with the hat.' Obviously, bad call. We wouldn't have converted the third down."

If not wearing a helmet might have cost Petrino a third down, other decisions -- if the facts of the report stand as they currently appear -- and the subsequent blurring of those facts by the university could raise further issues.
