Jimbo Fisher: 'I'm not a decision-maker'

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer
Florida State caused quite a stir over the weekend, adding fuel to the fire of rumors involving the school leaving the ACC to become the latest member of the Big 12 conference.

First it was Andy Haggard, the chairman of Florida State's board of trustees, saying that it was in the school's "best interest" to see what the Big 12 had to offer. Then Jimbo Fisher chimed in by saying that he thought Florida State should consider the Big 12 as well.

All of this after Florida State athletic director Randy Spetman said the school was fully committed to the ACC.

On Monday Fisher backed off his comments just a bit.

"I'm not a decision-maker," Fisher told Sports Illustrated's Andy Staples.

Now, while Jimbo Fisher is most definitely right, just because he doesn't make the decision doesn't mean he can't heavily influence it. If the head coach of your football program is saying that he thinks the school should consider another conference, the idea is likely to be taken into consideration.

Especially when it's on the back of the board of trustees saying the same thing.

It's impossible to know whether or not Florida State will leave the ACC for the Big 12, but given what went on over the weekend, you have to think the odds it will have improved a bit.
