Michigan will continue to wear alternate uniforms

By Tom Fornelli | Staff Writer

In 2011 Michigan wore alternate uniforms on three separate occasions in games against Notre Dame, Michigan State, and finally in the Sugar Bowl against Virginia Tech. In 2012 it sounds as if Michigan will continue the trend, though what and when they'll be wearing alternate uniforms isn't known yet.

All that's known is athletic director Dave Brandon says the practice won't be stopping.

"The coaches like it and the student-athletes like it and the recruits are enamored by it," Brandon told AnnArbor.com. "So why wouldn't we?"

"I think what we're going to do is lay it out and say, game by game, 'Here's what we're going to do. If we're going to make any changes, here's what they are,' and it will kind of end all the speculation. We're in the midst of all of that.”

Brandon went on to say that Brady Hoke and the Michigan coaches tell him the uniforms go a long way in recruiting, and it's true. Recruits love uniform combinations.

If Michigan is to wear alternate uniforms again in 2012, I'd assume they'd be worn in rivalry games and a bowl game much like they were last season. It's also possible that the Wolverines would open the season with special uniforms against Alabama.
