Big 12 schools received $19 million apiece

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer
My how things have changed in the Big 12 compared to what life was like only a year ago. The conference has gone from being on the brink of extinction for a while to having it's most successful season in history as far as finances are concerned.

It was announced on Friday that each member of the Big 12 conference received $19 million in revenue from the 2011 season.

Now, this doesn't put the Big 12 on par with the Big Ten, which distributed nearly $25 million per school for the 2011 season, but it does put them in the same tax bracket as the SEC, which gave its schools $20.1 million apiece this year. The SEC's number is sure to rise as the conference renegotiates its television deal, and the Big 12 will also fall short of what Pac-12 schools will get thanks to the television deal there.

Still, considering what the Big 12 has lost in recent years as far as schools are concerned, this financial windfall surely soothes the sting.

It also proves once again that the children of America should stay in school with the goal of one day becoming their own college football conference.
