Texas A&M suspends Steven Jenkins and Howard Matthews

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer

While the college football world was busy reacting to the news that the sport was officially adopting a four-team playoff on Tuesday there was a bit of news coming out of College Station that slipped through the cracks.

Texas A&M coach Kevin Sumlin suspended two members of his defense for a violation of team policy.

Both linebacker Steven Jenkins and cornerback Howard Matthews will miss Texas A&M's season-opener against Louisiana Tech this fall. What exactly they did to warrant the suspension, the Aggies aren't saying.

Jenkins started six games for Texas A&M last season, recording 61 tackles. Matthews played in all 13 games last year and had 28 tackles.
