Report: Former Alabama WR Duron Carter seeking transfer to FAU

Former Alabama wide receiver Duron Carter, son of NFL legend and current ESPN analyst Cris Carter, is reportedly seeking a transfer to Florida Atlantic with hopes of playing in 2012.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel and OwlAccess.com are reporting that Carter is hoping to make FAU his final stop, after Ohio State, Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College, and Alabama.

The 6-foot-5, 215-pound wide receiver caught 13 passes for 176 yards and a touchdown for the Buckeyes in 2009, but has not dressed for FBS competition since.

Carter is reportedly applying for a transfer waiver that would grant him access to join the Owls in 2012 with two years of eligibility remaining. The argument would likely be that Carter is moving close to his family - he graduated from Fort Lauderdale-St. Thomas Aquinas and Cris Carter has been a resident for nearly two decades - and that he never played a down for the Crimson Tide.

If Carter is not granted the waiver, he must sit out the 2012 season and will join the team in 2013 with only one year of eligibility left. First-year head coach Carl Pelini currently has DeAndre Richardson and Marcus Cunningham as the likely starting wide receivers for 2013, but the group could use a player of Carter's caliber to help fill seats in the brand new FAU Stadium.
