Report: PSU Board of Trustees to ratify NCAA sanctions

By Tom Fornelli | College Football Writer

According to an ESPN report, the Penn State Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Sunday in which they are expected to ratify the sanctions levied against the school that were agreed upon by the NCAA and president Rodney Erickson.

Board chairwoman Karen Peetz is quoted as saying the meeting was called "so that there can be no misunderstanding as to where we as the board stand."

"We have heard from President [Rodney] Erickson and from our legal team," wrote Peetz in an email to other trustees. "We have had an opportunity to speak our minds. I appreciate everyone's candor and your sincere and heartfelt comments. However, it is now time to put this matter to rest and to move on."

According to the ESPN report, two separate straw polls of the Penn State trustees show that the school will ratify the consent decree signed by both Erickson and the NCAA. Only a few of the 20-plus trustees said they wished to appeal the NCAA sanctions.

Though even if the Penn State trustees did decide to appeal the NCAA's sanctions, there isn't much that could be done about the penalties. Based on NCAA bylaws the NCAA penalties aren't subject to an appeal in the first place.
