Michigan CB Blake Countess (ACL) will miss the rest of the season

By Chip Patterson | Staff Writer

One of the challenges for Michigan in the weeks ahead will be putting Saturday's 41-14 loss to Alabama behind them, and adjusting their focus to winning the Big Ten in 2012.

Unfortunately the loss will have an effect on the rest of the Wolverines season, in the form of the Blake Countess injury that will cost him the rest of the season.

The school confirmed on that Countess will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL. The sophomore cornerback suffered the injury in the first half of Saturday's game while playing on punt coverage. Countess worked his way into the starting lineup as a true freshman in 2011, finishing the season with 44 tackles, six pass breakups and one forced fumble.

The Wolverines have depth in the secondary, but Countess' injury is a setback for a fast-rising star on the defensive side of the ball. His immediate replacement will likely be junior nickel back Courtney Avery and sophomore Raymon Taylor. Both players filled in against Alabama after Countess' injury, with Taylor arguably putting together the stronger showing - five tackles, one forced fumble.

Michigan returns to the Big House on Saturday, facing Air Force in their home opener.
