VIDEO: John L. Smith prank calls reporter from press conference

By Jerry Hinnen | Staff Writer

It's no secret that covering a football team coached by John L. Smith is not like covering teams coached by, well, anyone else.

The latest evidence comes from the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. With Smith starting his Monday press conference about 10 minutes early, reporter Nate Allen hadn't arrived yet. So Smith decided to have a little fun, calling Allen to let him know he'd better hurry up:

Kudos to Allen for giving almost as good as he got, reminding Smith that not every recent Hog practice had ended on time:

It's too soon to say if bringing Smith back on board was the best thing for Arkansas football. But is it the best thing for college football, generally speaking? Without question.
