CBS Sports announces South Carolina vs. Missouri to be 'SEC on CBS' matchup for Sept. 22

Another historic date on Missouri's inaugural campaign through the SEC will be broadcast to a national audience, as CBS Sports announced Monday that the Tigers' first trip to South Carolina will be the "SEC on CBS" matchup for Sept. 22.

Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET from Williams-Brice Stadium, with Verne Lundquist, Gary Danielson and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson (as always) on the call.

The undefeated Gamecocks are currently the No. 8 or No. 9 team in the country depending on which poll you believe (we prefer the AP's), and will tune up against UAB this Saturday. After its loss to Georgia in their SEC debut last Saturday, Missouri will host Arizona State in an appealing cross-regional nonconference matchup.

The game will carry major SEC East implications as South Carolina will need the win to keep pace with the Bulldogs, while the Tigers would be all but eliminated with two SEC losses and head-to-head defeats to the two divisional favorites.

The two programs never have met in the regular season, but they have played twice in bowl games with Missouri winning both times.

Steve Spurrier told a gathering of Gamecock fans this summer that the new intra-divisional rivalry would be labeled the "Battle of the Columbias." Missouri is located in Columbia, Mo., while South Carolina is in Columbia, S.C., obviously). Spurrier told the gathering that a trophy would be created for the winner. Further details on that proposal have yet to surface ... but we're hoping.
