For Wake Forest, fresh off its first loss to Duke in 12 meetings, bad has become worse as the Demon Deacons prepare to face Maryland on Saturday. An injury-depleted depth chart got thinner when the school announced Friday that six players have been suspended for one game for a violation of team rules.

The players, 2011 ACC Defensive Player of the Year Bud Noel, safety Daniel Mack, linebacker Mike Olson, guard Frank Souza, running back Deandre Martin and wide receiver Airyn Willis will be eligible for reinstatement before Wake Forest's next game - at Virginia on Oct. 20.

"I'm disappointed that some of our kids made poor decisions," coach Jim Grobe said in a statement released by the school. "These are good kids who just need to learn from their mistakes."

The Demon Deacons were already working on ways to replace wide receiver Michael Campanaro, who has been ruled out indefinitely after suffering a broken hand in the loss to Duke. Heading into the game, Campanaro was among the ACC's leaders in receptions and receiving yards.

Noel, Olson, Mack, and Souza are all starters, and Martin is the second-string running back behind Josh Harris. The loss of Noel and Mack leaves the Demon Deacons exposed in the secondary - not a great place to be with Maryland wide receiver Stefon Diggs on the opposing sideline Saturday.
