|The Ducks ran all over the Trojans US Presswire|
OREGON WON: Kenjon Barner rushed for a career-high 321 yards and five touchdowns to lead No. 2 Oregon (9-0) to a 62-51 victory over No. 17 USC (6-3) at the Coliseum on Saturday. The wild affair saw a truckload of records fall for both schools. Ducks quarterback Marcus Mariota threw for 304 yards and four scores, including six passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns to Josh Huff. USC quarterback Matt Barkley threw for 484 yards and five touchdowns, but he was intercepted twice. Marqise Lee had 408 all-purpose yards for the Trojans, including 157 receiving yards and two touchdowns on 12 catches. The two teams combined for 68 first downs and 1,345 yards of total offense.
WHEN OREGON WON: USC's only punt of the game with 14:11 left to play turned out to be costly, as the Ducks, up 48-38 at the time, took possession and drove down the field for a touchdown to go up by 17. Prior to that, USC was keeping close to the Ducks and appeared to have some momentum. But the Oregon defense stopped the Trojans on third and six and forced the punt. By breaking USC's 'serve' at a critical juncture, the Ducks were able to put the game out of reach.
WHY OREGON WON: The tempo, scheme and speed of the Oregon offense overwhelmed the Trojan defense. Barner sliced and diced his way through the first two levels of the USC defense with regularity, while Mariota was nearly perfect, hitting 20 of 23 passes. USC's stone-age-by-comparison offense just couldn't keep up. Oregon exploited every tiny Trojan mistake to score the most points ever against USC.
WHAT OREGON WON: This was a huge win for Oregon as it showed it could perform at a near-flawless level offensively against a team with elite talent on a national stage. If the Ducks are to make it to the BCS title game, it will need these kinds of wins against quality opponents.
WHAT USC LOST: This was USC's third conference loss, which means the Trojans have lost control of their destiny in the Pac-12 south division. Before the season, USC was talking national title, but now it may not even make it to the Pac-12 title game.
THAT WAS CRAZY: Oregon's 62 points was the most ever scored against USC. Barner's 321 rushing yards were the most ever gained by a player against USC. Oregon's 730 yards of total offense were the most ever against USC. Basically, the Ducks shredded almost every meaningful USC opponent offensive record.
