BCS chaos and conference realignment in the same day made for an exhausting Week 12, but thankfully the on-field performances made all the off-field RABBLE RABBLE worth it.
Tom Fornelli (@TomFornelli) joins me for another episode of the Rewind Podcast, digging into the wild Week 12 in college football. With Kansas State and Oregon suffering losses at the same time, Notre Dame was able to not only shut out Wake Forest but cruise to the top of the polls and BCS standings. The Irish, with no conference title game, are likely just a USC win away from playing for the BCS title. Tom explains why that, especially considering all the issues at USC, is terrifying for Ntore Dame diehards.
We break down a fantastic Pac-12 North showdown between Stanford and Oregon, giving credit where it's due to the Cardinal for owning the line of scrimmage and slowing down the high-powered Ducks. Kansas State's loss was a little more embarrassing, and we discuss how somewhere lost in the madness of Saturday is the fact that now a freshman winning the Heisman Trophy is very, very possible - if not likely.
Tom and I will also be seeking guidance to get legislation passed requiring all conference realignment announcements to be issued between the months of February and August, so that we may never again have to deal with potentially one of the biggest stories in the last 12 months (Big Ten's possible expansion by adding Maryland and Rutgers) in the midst of an exciting game day in November.
If you make it through the realignment chatter, there is a reward: the Week 12 Honor Roll.
In a hurry? Check the contents below for specific topics.
0:00 -- Week 12 Rewind Intro
1:00 -- More surprised Oregon/Kansas State lost or Notre Dame covered
2:30 -- I figured there may be chaos, just not this much and this early
8:15 -- Is Ohio State deserving of an AP No. 1 spot if they finish undefeated?
10:30 -- What did Stanford do to slow down the Ducks?
15:20 -- Baylor once again plays a role in the BCS title race and Heisman race, just in different ways.
18:30 -- How message board rumors turned to reality quickly with Maryland and Rutgers eyeing a possible jump to the Big Ten. And why - while we HATE the timing - it makes sense for the Big Ten.
21:30 -- Unfortunately, this is only the beginning of another set of dominos to fall in conference realignment.
29:20 -- After some more conference realignment chatter than we probably wanted/planned, we get back to the on-field performances with the Week 12 Honor Roll.
