Big East Poll Reactions, Week 12: Rutgers and Louisville on collision course for title

By Chip Patterson | College Writer

This week's polls have been released. Here's how the Big East fared, from the top of the polls to the bottom, and what it means.

19/18. Louisville

Louisville had the week off -- some much needed time after the embarrassing 45-26 loss at Syracuse knocked them from the top 10. The Cardinals return to action with the Big East title on the line. First will be their home finale against Connecticut, then a short week to prepare for a tough Thursday night showdown at Rutgers. The loser of that game could be bounced from a final top 25 ranking -- the ones that really matter.

21/19. Rutgers

Rutgers survived for a 10-3 win over Cincinnati in an old-school style battle: with hard running and lock-down defense. Savon Huggins stepped up with Jawan Jamison limited by an ankle injury, rushing for a career-high 179 yards on 41 carries. The ground attack allowed the Scarlet Knights to hold the ball for more than 37 minutes of game time, and the defense picked off Brendon Kay twice in the red zone. It was the third time this season Rutgers held an opponent to three points or fewer, but it was also not a flashy victory that won the attention of voters on a busy Saturday.

Others receiving votes: It appears as though Cincinnati received one vote in the coaches poll balloting. This is the part where I point out that Cincinnati coach Butch Jones does hold a vote.
