At least one SEC school appears fully poised to get off the coaching carousel.

Auburn president Jay Gogue told reporters in Montgomery, Ala., on Tuesday -- including those from local affiliate CBS 8 -- that the Tigers will make their new head coach official within the next 24 hours.

"Late today or tomorrow, we will be in a position to announce a coach," Gogue said, per fellow Montgomery station WSFA. "Auburn people are always excited; I know they'll be excited."

But who will that coach be? Though rumors flew early Tuesday that Auburn had offered Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart the job after his Monday interview, Auburn 247Sports affiliate AuburnUndercover has reported that Gus Malzahn has "moved to the front of the line" and is now the "leading candidate" in the Auburn search.

Bobby Petrino has also reportedly spoken with Auburn search officials but does not seem to have the needed support.

But with Arkansas stunning the college football world by hiring Wisconsin's Bret Bielema on Tuesday, anything seems possible.
