Tulane safety Devon Walker suffered a scary injury while attempting to make a tackle on Sept. 8 against Tulsa. The junior suffered a cervical spine fracture when he collided with teammate Julius Warmsley at the end of the first half.

Walker was moved to an undisclosed rehab facility on Sept. 18, where he has remained since the incident. While Walker is still immobile, Tulane announced Monday that he would be released from rehab in time to spend Christmas with his friends and family.

"I am so happy to be going home where I can reunite with my family and friends," Walker said in an official statement released by Tulane. "My family and I are very grateful for the support we continue to receive. Some days, when I think that I just can't do this anymore, remembering my many friends and supporters (both old and new) who are praying for me gives me the strength to go on. I know that my fight is just beginning. Please continue to pray for my recovery. Thank you very much."

Walker was a prominent member of the Tulane defense before the injury, and recorded nine tackles in the season-opener against Rutgers before the injury. The school also announced that Walker got a visit from Drew Brees, Jonathan Vilma, Marques Colston, and other members of the New Orleans Saints on Nov. 29 for his 22nd birthday.

This is obviously a great development for Walker and his family in his long road to recovery. For a powerful account of injury from the Tulsa team physician, check out Gregg Doyel's profile from Sept. 12.
