No. 6 Georgia will be without starting nose tackle John Jenkins when it plays No. 23 Nebraska in the Capital One Bowl on Jan. 1, Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said on Wednesday.

According to Richt, Jenkins will sit out the game due to "academic concerns."

The 6-foot-3, 358-pound senior was one of the mainstays on the Georgia defensive line this past fall. Jenkins had 50 tackles, including two for losses and a sack. He also blocked a kick and had 14 quarterback hurries.

The Bulldogs have no shortage of behemoths available to replace Jenkins, however. Junior Kwame Geathers , who is 6-6 and 355 pounds, was Jenkins' prime backup at nose tackle and he actually started one game there this season (plus three others at defensive end).

Geathers had 37 tackles in 2012 (with a career-high six coming against Alabama in the SEC title game), including five behind the line and one sack.

The Bulldogs will need Geathers to come through since Nebraska is eighth nationally in rushing at 254 yards per game.
