The nation's leading rusher is reportedly in trouble with the law.

Tucson police will file charges later this week against Arizona running back Ka'Deem Carey for a domestic violence incident that allegedly took place Dec. 23, according to multiple reports published within the last couple days.

Carey allegedly had an altercation with his pregnant ex-girlfriend. From one report:

According to Tucson police, Carey was trying to get into his pregnant ex-girlfriend's house to get a lighter to smoke drugs. She wouldn't let him inside so he allegedly pushed the woman down and then slammed the door on her hand.

In response, Carey tried to get a restraining order against the 23-year-old ex-girlfriend and her mother, but that request was denied.

Arizona athletic department officials and Wildcats coach Rich Rodriguez are aware of the pending charges. From a statement:

"I've spoken with Ka'Deem and am aware of the case," Rodriguez said. "We take these matters very seriously and will support the authorities however we can. Once more specific information is available, we will act accordingly."

Carey led the nation in rushing yards (1,929) and rushing yards per game (148.4) this past season. He also caught 36 passes and scored 24 total touchdowns on his way to being named a consensus All-American.

UPDATE: Arizona Daily Star reporter Daniel Berk tweeted the following on Wednesday afternoon:

Ka'Deem Carey's court date, originally scheduled for tomorrow, has been postponed. It will likely be moved to next week, but is not final.
