Braylon Heard's reported desire to transfer is news to Pelini

Nebraska could be losing some running back depth depending on whom you ask.

On Monday an Ohio television station reported that running back Braylon Heard was looking to leave Nebraska and transfer to a school that's "closer to home." Heard is from Youngstown, Ohio.

However, if Heard is planning on leaving Nebraska, he hasn't told Bo Pelini about it yet. The Nebraska coach told the Lincoln Journal Star that the original report was the first he'd heard anything about it.

If Heard does leave Nebraska, it wouldn't be a deathblow by any means. Rex Burkhead will not be back in 2013 but both Ameer Abdullah and Imani Cross will be back, and Heard would likely be third on the depth chart. The Cornhuskers also have two highly-touted running backs in their 2013 recruiting class with Adam Taylor and Terrell Newby. So if he does stay Heard could have trouble finding carries.

The sophomore finished the 2012 season with the fifth-most carries on the team, but did finish with 348 yards -- more than Cross on less carries -- and three touchdowns. Also, Heard's 6.7 yards per carry was the second best on the team, behind only Burkhead's 6.9.
