Stanford head coach David Shaw has promoted offensive line coach Mike Bloomgren to offensive coordinator, the school announced on Tuesday

Bloomgren replaces Pep Hamilton, who left to become the offensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts in mid-January. Bloomgren was Stanford's run game coordinator the past two seasons.

"I'm very excited about elevating Mike Bloomgren," said Shaw. "He was the only choice. We didn't interview anybody else, and we didn't want to interview anyone else. Mike has done an outstanding job with our offensive line and run game, though he's more than an offensive line coach."

Several schools around the country were looking to hire Bloomgren, including USC. By elevating Bloomgren to coordinator, Stanford will maintain offensive continuity and the tough, physical style personified by the Cardinal offensive line.
