One benefit of the ACC recruiting base is getting the letters in early, and here at 10 a.m. ET many schools already have seen that National Letter of Intent come through the fax machine. If the prospect has decided to sign elsewhere, most coaches know that as well.
Florida State wins some, loses some: The Seminoles received a commitment from five-star outside linebacker Matthew Thomas (Miami, Fla.), who was also considering the hometown Hurricanes. Thomas helps fill Florida State's needs in the front seven, but the celebration was short-lived when four-star offensive tackle Denver Kirkland chose Arkansas over the Seminoles and Miami less than an hour after Thomas' announcement.
Tough start for the Hurricanes: Miami missed out on outside linebacker Matthew Thomas (Florida State), offensive tackle Denver Kirkland (Arkansas), defensive end Jay-nard Bostwick (Florida), and running back Alex Collins (Arkansas) earlier in the week. Those are top-rated prospects in the Hurricanes' backyard, and letting them go means there is more pressure to land four-star wide receiver Stacy Coley (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and defensive tackle Keith Bryant (Delray Beach, Fla.).
Clemson loses more DL to "other" Tigers: Defensive end Carl Lawson was once high on Clemson but eventually picked Auburn and signed his National Letter of Intent with those Tigers on Wednesday. The loss of Lawson stung even more when five star defensive tackle Montravius Adams announced his intentions to sign with Auburn on ESPNU Wednesday morning. Elijah Daniel was also a high target for Dabo Swinney's staff earlier in the process, but Daniel -- an Ole Miss commitment before Wednesday -- flipped to Auburn as well.
