Spring practice is underway at many schools, with the rest of the 125 FBS programs hitting the field in the coming weeks. Spring practice officially kicks off the preparations for the 2013 season, so there is no shame in getting excited about ESPN's announcement of the opening weekend kickoff times.
Sure, there are still 177 days until we sit down for a cozy Thursday night doubleheader of South Carolina-North Carolina and Vanderbilt-Ole Miss. But that does not mean we feel ashamed for getting a little (OK, a lot) excited about the upcoming season of college football.
Primetime Thursday is only topped by a Saturday evening that features six bowl teams from 2012 on the national stage. Alabama will kick off its BCS title defense against Virginia Tech in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Classic. Then we will grab the remote to bounce between LSU-TCU in Cowboys Stadium and Clemson-Georgia under the lights in Death Valley.
