Washington tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkinswas charged with DUI late Saturday night after being stopped by Seattle police.

The school released the following statement Sunday from coach Steve Sarkisian:

"We are aware of an incident that occurred Saturday evening involving Austin Seferian-Jenkins. We are taking the matter very seriously. Austin made decisions that fall short of our expectations for student-athletes who represent the University of Washington. He will be disciplined internally in accordance with team and departmental policies. We will continue to support Austin throughout this process, while also holding him accountable and responsible for his actions," Sarkisian said.

The school added: "Neither Sarkisian, Seferian-Jenkins, nor any other department officials will have further comment on the matter at this time."

The 6-foot-6, 266-pound Seferian-Jenkins was among the top tight ends in the country in 2012, catching 69 passes for 852 yards and seven touchdowns. He's one of the front-runners for the Mackey Award this fall and also a potential first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
