Florida freshman linebacker Alex Anzalone suffered a shoulder injury that will cause him to miss the rest of spring practice, Gators coach Will Muschamp said Tuesday.

The early enrollee injured the labrum in his right shoulder during a tackling drill over the weekend. Muschamp informed reporters that the injury required surgery, but Anzalone should be back to full strength in time for fall camp.

Anzalone is a five-star prospect, rated by 247Sports as the No. 4 outside linebacker in the Class of 2013. The Reading, Pa., native switched his commitment from Notre Dame to Florida in early January, the 11th hour for early enrollment in Gainesville. He is one of seven freshmen from Florida's highly-rated signing class already on campus for spring drills.

While the Gators will miss the depth for practice reasons, Anzalone is expected play a reserve role in 2013. The Gators have Antonio Morrison, Neiron Ball, Michael Taylor and Darrin Kitchens returning with freshman Jeremi Powell joining the crowd after redshirting in 2012.
