Mark Emmert: Miami investigation 'very mishandled' by staff

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Before Saturday's tipoff of the Syracuse-Marquette game in Washington D.C., NCAA president Mark Emmert stated the Miami investigation was "very mishandled" by the enforcement staff.

Emmert addressed the investigation, along with other controversial issues such as the one-and-done rule and the turmoil surrounding coaching changes, during an interview with Greg Gumbel on CBS' Road to the Final Four pregame show.

Around the 2:30 mark, Emmert addressed the Miami investigation. After explaining the legislative process -- that the case is in the hands of the Committee on Infractions -- Emmert admitted some of the missteps made by his enforcement staff during the investigation.

On Friday, CBSSports.com Senior Football Columnist Dennis Dodd reported that Miami will file an unprecedented motion with the NCAA to dismiss the two-year old case. The motion comes as a result of reports from The Miami Herald that alleged additional misconduct by the NCAA enforcement team.
