Michigan QB Russell Bellomy has a torn ACL

The injury bug has bitten Michigan yet again this spring.

The school announced Monday that quarterback Russell Bellomy suffered a torn ACL during practice Friday and is out indefinitely.

"It's unfortunate, especially for a kid who battled through a tough injury last season and was having a really good spring," Michigan coach Brady Hoke said in a school release. "We'll continue to support Russell and look forward to having him back on the field."

While the school says Bellomy is out indefinitely, ACL injuries generally take about a year to fully recover from, so it's safe to assume that Bellomy will not be seeing the field in 2013. Bellomy saw major playing time in only one game for Michigan last season after an injury to Denard Robinson, and had a nightmare performance.

Bellomy completed only three of his 16 passes for 38 yards in Michigan's 23-9 loss against Nebraska. Devin Gardner would take over the starting quarterback role the following week against Minnesota.

Bellomy is the second player Michigan has lost to an ACL injury this spring, as linebacker and leading tackler Jake Ryan suffered a torn ACL in March and will miss the 2013 season as well.
