We need as many college football games played on Thanksgiving as possible to make it that much easier for all of us to ignore our families, and both Mississippi State and Ole Miss are doing their part in helping us, the college football fan, do just that.
Mississippi State announced Wednesday that the Egg Bowl will be played on Thanksgiving night for the first time since 2003.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for our state's largest football game to be played on the largest stage of a crowded football weekend,” Mississippi State athletic director Scott Stricklin said in a press release. “Some of the most memorable games in Egg Bowl history have come on Thanksgiving night, and hopefully more great memories can be made for Bulldog fans on this holiday evening."
The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. ET, just after you've finished that last piece of turkey.
Last season the only college game played on Thanksgiving was TCU's 20-13 win over Texas. This year the Longhorns will once again play on Thanksgiving, but against Texas Tech. Which means we now have twice as much college football to watch on Thanksgiving as we did last season.
So I already know what I'm thankful for this year.
