Wisconsin has been able to escape spring practice without any major injuries, but first-year Badgers coach Gary Andersen has decided to keep several players on the sideline for Saturday's spring game as a precaution.
Andersen announced Wednesday that linebacker Chris Borland, defensive end Ethan Hemer, safety Dezmen Southward, running back James White, offensive lineman Ryan Groy and wide receiver Jared Abbrederis will not play in the spring game.
"Hopefully every kid we allow to play will play," Andersen said Wednesday via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Some of the players being held out, like Kelly, are healthy enough to play, particularly in a spring game. But no one is questioning Andersen's caution in rushing players back to full-contact football.
Wisconsin will hold its spring game Saturday afternoon in Camp Randall Stadium. For more on the Badgers' offseason outlook, check out Tom Fornelli's Spring Practice Primer.
