Dennis Franchione is the proud owner of a new contract at Texas State. The school announced Thursday that Franchione received a new five-year deal with a raise in salary to $400,000 beginning in 2014.

“Coach Franchione has been a strong leader for our program, increased visibility, generated a high level of enthusiasm and instilled a strong work ethic for student-athletes on and off the field, ” said school president Dr. Denise Trauth. “He also has helped guide the program into the coveted ranks of the Football Bowl Subdivision. There has been great buzz about being elevated to the top level of college football, and we expect more good things as our program grows.”

Texas State went 4-8 last season in its first and only season as a member of the WAC; the Bobcats will join the Sun Belt in 2014. The Bobcats are 10-14 in their first two seasons as an FBS program under Franchione. However, this is Franchione's second stint as head coach at the school, where he coached during the 1990 and 1991 seasons when it was known as Southwest Texas State.

Franchione also spent five seasons at Texas A&M and two at Alabama and has compiled a record of 197-115-2 during his career.
