Defensive end Austin Flynn, safety Defonta Lowe, wide receiver Keante Minor and quarterback Brandon Mitchell have all been given releases to transfer from Arkansas, the school announced on Monday.

Mitchell, an experienced senior who appeared in 21 games at both quarterback and receiver over three seasons for the Razorbacks, is the most significant of the impending departures. He spent this past spring competing with sophomore Brandon Allen for the starting quarterback position and, while Allen was thought to have the edge heading into the fall, Mitchell was still considered to be in the mix to win the job. Now, it appears Allen has locked down the starting spot.

The good news for Mitchell is that he is on track to graduate from Arkansas this spring, so he'll be eligible to play immediately wherever he transfers to this fall.

Flynn, a senior, appeared in 12 games and had 10 tackles for the Razorbacks last season, while Lowe, a sophomore, saw action in three games and had one tackle. Minor, a junior, didn't catch any passes for Arkansas, but he did return nine punts and three kicks in his two seasons with the program.

"We fully support them and wish them all the best moving forward," Arkansas coach Bret Bielema said.
