UCLA defensive back Marcus Rios won't have to have more surgeries to treat a dangerous sinus infection and now has a slim chance of returning for the 2013 season, the Los Angeles Times reported on Tuesday.

Rios has already undergone six surgeries to fight a fungus that was located behind his eye and beneath his brain, but doctors determined that a seventh won't be necessary due to the success of antibiotics in dealing with the issue. This is encouraging news for the 18-year-old Rios, since the infection is very rare and has proven to be fatal in the past.

The rising sophomore played in eight games for the Bruins last year, making three tackles. His return would bolster a UCLA secondary that is thin and lacking in experience.
