Former Wyoming punter says he's headed to Tennessee

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

Former Wyoming punter Tim Gleeson took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce his intention to transfer to Tennessee.

Gleeson, a native of Melbourne, Australia, left the Cowboys in April for personal reasons. According to NCAA transfer rules, he will be forced to sit out the 2013 season before playing for the Vols.

Gleeson ranked fourth in the Mountain West and 27th nationally with 42.95 yards per punt in 2012. By the end of the season, the Aussie freshman collected one Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week nod and was named Honorable Mention All-Mountain West.

With Gleeson, the number of Australian punters in the SEC continues to increase. LSU appears to have started a trend thanks to its success with Australian punter Brad Wing. The Tigers will turn the punting responsibilities over to Jamie Keehn, from Miners Rest, Australia, in 2013. Even Gleeson's own younger brother, Will, is an Ole Miss commit in the class of 2014.

Tennessee is expected to start senior Michael Palardy at punter in 2013 with Gleeson getting a chance to compete against Matt Darr for the duties in 2014.
