American Athletic Conference may create its own bowl game

On Wednesday morning the bowl schedule for the 2013 season was released, but it's possible that if the American Athletic Conference -- the Big East for you old-school cats -- gets its way, there could be a new bowl game added to it in the future.

Conference commissioner Mike Aresco told the Tampa Bay Times the AAC will consider creating its own bowl game.

"We think that's doable. We think the finances can work," Aresco told the paper. "We think ESPN's done a heck of a job with some of the bowls they've created, and we think it's time we did something like that. We like the idea of it."

With the conference losing its automatic BCS berth once the College Football Playoff begins, the American Athletic Conference's bowl lineup is somewhat uncertain at the moment, so creating its own game might not be the worst idea.

As for where the game could be played, the Tampa Bay Times' Greg Auman mentions Marlins Park, the new baseball stadium opened in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood last year. A Miami Marlins spokesperson told the paper the Marlins would be interested in hosting a bowl game and that the park could be configured for one.

If it does happen, I hope they use that home run monstrosity out in center field for every touchdown that's scored.
