Incoming Iowa State recruit Kamari Cotton-Moya says he's "full-go" and is getting ready to leave for Ames this summer after being shot in the shoulder on May 19.

Cotton-Moya and his friend Colin Jones were leaving a friend's house in East Bakersfield, Calif., early that Sunday morning when Cotton-Moya was shot in the shoulder and Jones was hit in the face and shoulder. Both were treated at a hospital and released.

“I feel really blessed to be healthy and to be standing,” Cotton-Moya told the Ames Tribune. “I am fine. Gun shots are a big deal. People die from them every day.

“I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It wasn't on purpose.”

Cotton-Moya says he was only in the hospital for about 30 minutes before being released.

A three-star athlete in Iowa State's 2013 recruiting class, Cotton-Moya was primarily a quarterback in high school but he'll be a defensive back at Iowa State. He plans on leaving California for Ames on June 16.
