Ohio State has plans to increase the seating capacity of Ohio Stadium by 2,500 in 2014, the Columbus Dispatch reported on Friday.

Athletic director Gene Smith told the Dispatch via text that his department will send the $9 million proposal to the university's board of trustees next week.

The seats would be added to the south end zone and would push the stadium's overall capacity from 102,329 to 104,829.

The expansion would make it college football's third-largest stadium behind those at Michigan (109,901) and Penn State (106,572).
