Coach Jimbo Fisher announced Thursday that Haplea had torn his ACL in an offseason workout, per the Associated Press. Haplea appeared in all 13 games for the Seminoles in 2012 after transferring from Penn State in August, following the NCAA's announcement of sanctions against the Nittany Lions.
Due to the sanctions, Haplea was eligible to play immediately. He finished with only 3 catches for 15 yards but scored a pivotal touchdown against USF, saw frequent action as part of the Seminoles' two tight-end sets and participated on special teams. A rising senior, Haplea was expected to expand on his role as a key blocker in Fisher's rushing attack.
Haplea collected six catches for 60 yards in his two seasons at Penn State.
