LSU RB Jeremy Hill pleads guilty to simple battery charge

By Chip Patterson | College Football/Basketball Writer

LSU running back Jeremy Hill pled guilty to simple battery on Friday morning, but his status for the Tigers in 2013 is still up in the air.

Hill was suspended indefinitely from the LSU football team in April after he was accused of punching a 20-year-old man at a Baton Rouge bar and knocking him unconscious. Earlier this week, the sophomore running back was formally charged with simple battery, a misdemeanor. He was sentenced to two years of probation, 50 hours of community service, and he must pay $375 for the victim's medical bills and write a letter of apology.

According to Baton Rouge's WBRZ, Hill also received a six-month suspended jail sentence. He has to give weekly updates to a probation officer and is currently under a curfew. Hill was also instructed not make any comments to the press or on social media.

As a freshman, Hill led the Tigers in rushing with 755 yards and 12 touchdowns. A bulk of that production came late in the season, when Hill totaled 684 yards and 10 touchdowns in the final seven games. His emergence provided a noticeable boost to the LSU offense, and his status for 2013 will likely be a topic for coach Les Miles to address at SEC Media Days next week.
