We come here today to lay to rest the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl.

On Wednesday, the Big Ten announced it has reached a six-year agreement with the NFL's Detroit Lions on a bowl game that will be played at Ford Field beginning in the 2014 season. As of now, the bowl game does not have a name, but one will be decided once somebody decides to pay to get their name on it.

“We are pleased to join with the Detroit Lions in creating this new postseason bowl game in Detroit,” said Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany in a release. “The city of Detroit has played host to as many big-time sporting events as any other major city in America, from NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four and Regional games to the Super Bowl, World Series and NBA Finals. The support of the business and community leaders of Detroit coupled with a world-class facility in Ford Field and Detroit Lions management of the game will result in a meaningful experience for Big Ten teams and their fans.”

The Lions become the second NFL team to officially host and operate a bowl game, joining the Houston Texans.

Reports of the partnership between the Big Ten and the Lions first surfaced in May. At the time, it was reported the Big Ten's likely opponent in the game will come from the ACC.
