According to the Associated Press prosecutors will drop charges against Maryland running back Wes Brown. Brown had been arrested in early July and charged with second-degree assault, theft and wire-tapping.

The arrest stemmed from Brown allegedly assaulting a police officer who was questioning him about a non-fatal shooting. Police say Brown assaulted the officer and secretly recorded his conversation with the officer on a cell phone, which resulted in the wire-tapping charge.

Now prosecutors have decided to drop the charges due to the lack of evidence. John Erzen, a spokesman for the state's attorney's office, says prosecutors believe Brown was resisting an unlawful arrest and not assaulting a police officer.

"There's nowhere to go with this at this point," Erzen told the Associated Press. "We don't believe after screening ... that any crimes were committed. We're not going with charges."

Brown, who was Maryland's second-leading rusher in 2012, had been suspended by school following his arrest.
